Youthcom's role is to support, co-ordinate and to monitor existing youth ministry within the diocese and to develop further initiatives that address the needs of young people. We endeavour also to facilitate the widest possible sharing of the gifts of young people with the wider community.
In partnership with youth leaders, young people and parish communities in Down and Connor, we promote and seek to enhance the scope and quality of youth ministry provision across the diocese. We support and advise the full range of diocesan groups and engage with all other relevant agencies to develop the potential and nourish the vitality of youth ministry in the diocese.
Youthcom welcomes the continued opportunity to work with and for young people. It does so in clear recognition of the already strong and vibrant faith as well as the fresh idealism of thousands of young people within our diocese and beyond. Youthcom is aware of the potential of that faith to affect the type of positive change in society that would more strongly reflect Catholic moral and social teaching.
Youthcom acknowledges and advocates the centrality of religious practice and will, with Catholic principles and practices as keystones of its policies, work for, and engage with, young people and youth leaders in a range of settings that can deliver a co-ordinated and comprehensive model of youth ministry.
Youthcom believes that our diocese will be wonderfully enriched by productive channelling of the energies and gifts of our young people. We will seek to ascertain and respond to the views of young people and youth leaders, and will, with their co-operation, try to translate our combined resources, abilities and experience into clear enhancement of the life and the mission of our individual parishes and diocesan family.
